Latest NewsYeatman Conducts US policy tour ahead of ‘momentous’ year for developmentIn December 2004, Brian Yeatman and representatives from the Yeatman Foundation conducted a policy tour of the United States , seeing decision makers and high-level officials from organisations like UNICEF to policymakers in the US Senate to Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). The emphasis of the discussions was encouraging policymakers to take seriously the upcoming year in development. Mr Yeatman said “The next year will be a momentous year for development. The UK Government, with its presidency of the G8 in the first half of the year and EU presidency in the second part have made clear that development is very high on their agenda. But the UK Government, however willing, cannot do so alone. That is why I have come to the US to emphasise the importance of working together to better the plight of those in the developing countries, especially the young and those afflicted with HIV/AIDS—two issues that are extremely close to my heart.” |
